A substantial Scottish Victorian pine dresser base dating to the 19th century, retaining a particularly warm, mellow surface and appealing country-house character. The broad serving top is framed by a raised back and shaped side returns, with notches at the rear corners indicating the piece originally supported an upper plate rack or dresser top. Three generously proportioned drawers with turned wood pulls sit above three molded, fielded-panel cabinet doors, opening to a continuous interior fitted with a fixed-height shelf. Paneled sides, straightforward joinery and sturdy straight supports reinforce its utilitarian origins, while knots, variations in tone, old marks and wear throughout the pine contribute to its attractive, naturally aged patina. At an impressive 70 inches wide and 25 inches deep, the dresser offers considerable storage and surface area and works beautifully today as a kitchen sideboard, serving cabinet or substantial console.
