A full shoulder mount of a mature bull blue wildebeest, also called the common wildebeest or brindled gnu, turned slightly to the viewer's left and set on a shaped wall panel. Heavy bosses meeting at the crown with horns sweeping outward, down and then sharply up, deeply ridged at the base and smooth toward the tips. Dark bristled face mask, black throat beard, upright dorsal mane, and the vertical brindling across the neck and shoulders that gives the animal its name. Glass eyes.
The dark beard and heavy bossed horns are consistent with the southern subspecies C. t. taurinus rather than the East African white-bearded forms, which would suggest South Africa, Namibia, Botswana or Zimbabwe as the country of take. Photograph color is not reliable for this call, so treat it as an indication, not a determination.
Condition: wear consistent with age and display. Some fading to the hide, most visible across the neck and shoulder. Minor hair loss to the neck. No visible splitting to the nose or ear leather in the images provided, though these are the areas to check in person.
