A beautifully crafted benchmade tiger maple dining table inspired by early American farmhouse and tavern tables. The restrained form places the emphasis on an exceptionally attractive figured tiger-maple top, displaying strong, rhythmic curl across the boards and a warm honey-amber finish that brings considerable depth to the grain.
The rectangular top has a generous overhang above a wonderfully simple red-painted wooden base, its muted brick-red surface lending the table the collected character of an early country piece. Straight, subtly tapered legs are joined by a plain apron along the sides, while the ends feature shaped arched aprons, a traditional detail frequently found on American country and tavern furniture.
The combination of highly figured maple and painted secondary wood is particularly successful: the sophisticated tiger maple elevates what is otherwise an intentionally spare, utilitarian farmhouse form. Rather than feeling like a conventional reproduction, the table has the character of a piece that could have evolved from an early New England design.
