A bay thoroughbred or hunter shown standing in profile facing left, dark points, docked-looking black tail, against a level pasture with a clapboard outbuilding at left and a broad clouded sky. Painted thinly and quickly on a smooth board in the Stubbs-to-Herring conformation-portrait template that English decorative studios have reproduced continuously. Set in an ornate swept and shell-cornered gilt frame with a linen-effect inner slip.
Oil on board (panel), signed in red lower left, indistinctly, reading approximately "Bailey." Composition-ornamented giltwood frame bearing the trade label of Carvers & Gilders, Picture Makers & Restorers, England, to the verso.
