A dramatic, large-scale bronze sculpture after Frederic Remington’s iconic 1895 composition The Bronco Buster, depicting a cowboy struggling to maintain his seat atop a violently bucking horse. Remington’s original was his first sculpture and became one of the defining images of the American West.

Measuring approximately 21 inches wide x 21 inches high, this substantial casting captures the extraordinary movement of the original composition: the horse twists and rears with its forelegs suspended in midair while the cowboy pitches forward, one arm thrown outward for balance. Particularly appealing are the finely modeled details of the cowboy’s hat, clothing, saddle, stirrups, reins, horse’s musculature and windswept tail.

The sculpture has a rich dark brown/black bronze patina with subtle highlights across the raised surfaces and is mounted on a substantial polished black stone plinth with brass title plaque. Its large size gives it considerable presence as a library, office, equestrian or Western decorative piece.

The Huntington’s documented original Bronco Buster measures approximately 23 x 12 x 21 inches, so this example is quite close to the scale associated with the original composition.
