An elegant and unusual pair of antique English silvered candlesticks dating to the Arts & Crafts period, circa 1890–1910, later professionally fitted for use as table lamps.
Each candlestick features a beautifully proportioned hand-worked baluster stem, broad circular drip pan and stepped round base. The restrained ornament and subtle irregularities of the metalwork give the pair a distinctly handcrafted quality, while the softly aged silvered surface retains an appealing patina and warmth acquired over more than a century.
The candlesticks have been sensitively adapted for electricity using faux candle sleeves, preserving their original appearance and allowing the historic bases to function as sophisticated accent lamps. They are finished with contemporary Pooky tapered fabric shades in a soft rose pink, an especially effective contrast against the aged silver.
Their slender scale makes them particularly well suited as buffet lamps, console lamps, bedside lighting or flanking lamps on a chest or sideboard. The pairing of English antique metalwork with the clean silhouette of the Pooky shades gives them a collected, layered quality that works equally well in traditional and contemporary interiors.
