A sophisticated pair of Sheraton-style mahogany upholstered armchairs, distinguished by elegant Neoclassical proportions and finely executed contrasting inlay. Each chair features a tall, gently curved upholstered back flowing into shaped sides and a comfortably proportioned seat, all covered in a finely textured red-and-cream woven fabric with coordinating corded trim.
The exposed mahogany framework is particularly attractive. Gracefully curved arm supports terminate in reeded and turned baluster-form uprights, while the front legs are slender, fluted and tapering in the Sheraton manner. The uprights are accented by striking golden burlwood panels, creating a handsome contrast against the dark mahogany. Fine chevron-pattern string inlay follows the inner curve of the arm supports—an unusually decorative detail best appreciated in the close-up photographs.
The upholstered sides and backs give the chairs a more enveloping, architectural silhouette than a conventional open-arm Sheraton chair, while their restrained scale and 18-inch seat height make them practical as occasional, library, bedroom or fireside seating.
